Site Introduction

Plant seed origin is the most basic material for variety improvement, and the polymorphism and genetic variation of seed origin are the driving force behind the continuous progress of crop breeding. In recent years, as agricultural operations are moving towards a specialized economic production model, crop cultivation is mostly based on a generation of hybrid seeds or fixed commercial varieties, causing wild or local species to be neglected and disappearing day by day. However, these wild species are often resistant to pests and diseases. Genes such as tolerance to stress (such as tolerance to high, low temperature or drought) are precious materials for human beings to respond to changes in the cultivation environment or special goals in the future. In view of the need for sustainable agricultural development, countries around the world have established crop seed banks to preserve a large number of plant genetic substrates and continue the divergence of crop genetics. The preserved seeds can be used for breeding improvement, technology and other academic research; on the other hand, they can be fed back and restored in the natural biological ecology to maintain ecological balance.

System Outlook

"Seed origin" is the cornerstone of agricultural production. No matter how the future development of biotechnology, such as gene transfer and tissue culture, it is impossible to put these advanced biotechnologies into practical use without seed origin. Nowadays, when seed stocks are rapidly being lost, the collection and preservation of seed stocks is a top priority. The hardware and equipment of our center are sophisticated, but we still ask for continuous assistance from all walks of life to provide seed information and materials to broaden the collection of seed stocks. In order to improve the level of agricultural production and science and technology through abundant seed stocks.

Business Description

The main business of the Seed Origin Center is divided into four parts: namely collection, preservation, provision and the research on the identification technology of seed origin preservation
